'Don't get me wrong' - Spurs expert points finger at 'unfit' Tottenham star

Tottenham suffered defeat to Wolves due to key absentees and a lack of concentration.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Scotland defender Alan Hutton pointed to key omissions from the squad, including Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, as the “key factor” behind the 2-1 defeat on Saturday (11 November).

Brennan Johnson opened the clash with his first goal for his new club but a stoppage-time Wolves double through Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina secured all three points for Gary O’Neil’s side.

The loss saw Spurs fall to fourth in the Premier League table after having led the pack for the majority of the season.

Hutton was far from impressed with the display at Molineux but admitted that some uncontrollable issues contributed to their second successive league defeat.

“That was disappointing,” he told Football Insider.

“A lot of that comes down to concentration. I know that Wolves were on the front foot and they were always going to have spells in the game.

“I think it comes down to them missing Romero and van de Ven, Udogie was missing too.

“You could see the back line and how they dropped very deep. They were a bit ragged.

“The first goal – Eric Dier runs out of position. You could tell that the back line hadn’t played a lot together.

“Fitness is an issue too, with Dier and others, they were not match-ready or fit enough. Don’t get me wrong, it was two fantastic goals that Wolves scored, especially the first one.

“Ange will be disappointed, of course, but he will know he is missing some top players and that was the key factor.”

In other news, Van de Ven opens door for Tottenham to complete two big January deals.
