Pundit drops 'angry' Trippier claim after latest Newcastle footage analysed

Newcastle United fans’ frustrations are understandable after Kieran Trippier’s face-to-face confrontation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Scotland defender Alan Hutton sympathised with Magpies supporters amid their critical injury crisis and their recent defeat to Bournemouth.

Footage emerged of Trippier talking back to Newcastle fans in the stands at the Vitality Stadium after their 2-0 loss to the Cherries on Saturday (11 November).

Eddie Howe’s side have slipped to seventh in the Premier League table after dropping points to Bournemouth, Wolves and West Ham in recent fixtures and lost consecutive Champions League ties against Borussia Dortmund.

With an injury list that includes Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak and Dan Burn, Hutton claimed that better communication between fans and the club is needed but accepted their reaction.

“I understand the fans are frustrated – I get it,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously the Champions League, with them being in the group of death, was always going to be difficult.

“After what happened last season and the hype behind it and making the Champions League for the first time in a long period of time, you expect as a fan for them to kick on.

“It’s been difficult. The injuries and the travelling that the fans have had to do as well.

“It was a poor performance so of course you understand. Trippier being the leader he is – I know him well – it’s not about confronting him or being angry towards him.

“It’s about trying to have that communication between both supporters and the players.

“They’re giving it their all and the circumstances are tough. I don’t mind the fans’ reactions as long as it doesn’t step over the mark.”
