Hutton shares emphatic verdict on two Rangers controversies - 'Goldson is not happy'

VAR was correct to not award Rangers their two disallowed goals against Livingston.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton noted that VAR is there to get the big decisions correct despite its negative impact on Rangers.

Philippe Clement extended his unbeaten start at Ibrox with a 2-0 win at Almomdvale on Sunday (12 November) despite having two first-half goals from Connor Goldson and Ross McCausland chalked off for offside and a foul respectively.

Cyriel Dessers scored the opener in between the disallowed goals while James Taverneir made up for his earlier missed penalty with a successful spot kick in the closing stages.

Hutton praised his former side for their strong performance but admitted he was not let down by VAR.

“I thought it was a decent performance,” he told Football Insider.

“Especially after Thursday night and everything that entails. To go up to Livingston on the plastic pitch with two goals and a clean sheet. It ticks all the boxes.

“Obviously the first one when Dessers goes for it, it does affect the goalkeeper.

“I’ve looked at this again. You can see why it was disallowed. Obviously, Goldson won’t be happy and I can tell you he isn’t happy about missing out on the goal, but you can see why that one’s given.

“This is why VAR is there. It’s to get those big decisions right and get it back to a level playing field, so you can understand why.”
