Rangers expert reacts to source's 'amazing' reveal on £40m+ payout

Rangers will look to reinvest their record-breaking cash injection back into the squad.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton claimed that Philippe Clement will be eager to build the team in his own image with these funds despite the club’s heavy spending his summer.

As revealed by Football Insider (11 November), Rangers are set for a cash boost after the SPFL posted a record-breaking £42.6million of revenue from last season.

This marks a £3million increase from the previous season and the SPFL’s Companies House submission revealed that clubs in the top flight will receive a share of £32million meaning the Gers will see a record-breaking fee from the league.

Hutton admitted the Belgian would need multiple windows to fully transform the side but was hopeful that the extra funds would be put to good use.

“Of course, it’s always amazing when the money comes in and is increasing,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously Rangers and Celtic are the big draw for the league so to get that money is huge.

“To win the league, it’s not exactly break-the-bank stuff so they rely on European performances and getting through the group stages.

“You’d like to think with this money coming through the club that they can reinvest it.

“Ultimately, the manager at this moment in time will be analysing his squad to see where he needs to strengthen and who doesn’t fit the way he wants to play.

“It’s going to take a number of transfer windows but he’ll need the money even with all the players Michael Beale brought in this summer.

“There has been a big turnaround in terms of playing staff but the manager will want to put his stamp on it.”
