Kieran Maguire: Man City hatch '£60m' plan after record-breaking news

Man City are focused on increasing matchday revenue at the Etihad in order to close a £60million gap to rivals Man United and £50million to Tottenham.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that City will be pushing to increase their revenue despite posting record-breaking figures in 2022/23.

City’s annual report for 2022/23 revealed revenue of £712.8million – a record figure for a Premier League team.

A breakdown of that revenue generation shows that City earned £71.9million in matchday revenue during their club’s historic treble-winning campaign.

It was a club record for City, but they still trail behind United who posted record matchday revenue of £136million.

City have already announced plans to expand the Etihad Stadium with an additional 7,900 seats and new fan zone areas, with the £300million project being approved in July.

Maguire believes City will be pushing to improve their matchday revenue figures to catch up to the likes of United, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Man City will be looking to go higher, and there are things they can do to increase revenues further,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

We know they are looking at expanding the Etihad’s capacity to 61,000.

I think they will be looking for more day fans to come into the stadium as part of that expansion because they are known to pay more money.

They still are £60million behind Manchester United when it comes to matchday income, so this will be their focus.

We’re talking about £50m behind Arsenal and Spurs in a season where they are playing European football and so on.

So there is still some catching up to do.

But their overall financial results for the 2022/23 season are certainly at the top end of expectations.
